Quartier Heidestraße

The Berlin firms ROBERTNEUN Architekten and gmp Architekten von Gerkan, Marg und Partner were both awarded the 1st prize for their proposals for the planned special zone in the Quartier Heidestrasse.

The competition applied to the core of the Quartier Heidestraße, to be developed as part of the Berlin Europacity. Retail, residential and commercial activities are to be created in the 9,490 sqm space. It will be developed as the first project segment in the Quartier. The task was to develop façade designs as well as the floor plan for each of the use areas.

The jury formulated recommendations for further development of both prize-winning proposals from ROBERTNEUN Architekten and gmp Architekten von Gerkan, Marg und Partner. After another round of evaluation by the jury one of the proposals will be selected for realisation. The third prize was awarded to the firm AllesWirdGut (Vienna).

The winner of the competition was chosen from seven contributions. Taurecon conducted the competition on behalf of Quartier Heidestraße GmbH, together with the Senate Department of Urban Development, the district authorities of Berlin-Mitte and the Architektenkammer Berlin (Chamber of Architects). AllesWirdGut ZT GmbH (Vienna), ARTEC Architekten (Vienna), Cobe Architects GmbH (Copenhagen/Berlin), gmp Architekten von Gerkan, Marg und Partner (Berlin), kadawittfeldarchitektur gmbH (Berlin), Kleihues + Kleihues Gesellschaft für Architekten mbH (Berlin) as well as ROBERTNEUN Architekten GmbH (Berlin) participated. Drees & Sommer Berlin initiated the competition and performed the pre-selection.

The jury members included Senatsbaudirektorin Regula Lüscher, Steffen Klette as representative of the Berlin – Mitte city planning office and Thomas Bergander, managing director of Quartier Heidestraße GmbH.
