  • QH Track office building pre-certified with DGNB gold
  • Mobility, living, connections, culture and work in the context of sustainable neighbourhood development

Berlin, 15 June 2018 – Yesterday evening, experts and project developers gathered in the historic Kornversuchsspeicher, the former grain test storage facility on the Berlin-Spandau ship canal for ‘B. THE FUTURE’, a discussion on rethinking the city of the 21st century, and in particular, the reality of how to build it. Representatives from Taurecon GmbH, the developer of Quartier Heidestrasse and from the project management company Drees & Sommer, delivered a joint presentation on Quartier Heidestrasse, the development of which will have a major impact on Europacity located north of Berlin’s main station.

The highlight of the evening was the preliminary DGNB gold certificate awarded to the office building QH Track at the start of the event. According to QH Track architects EM2N Architekten, nine building structures with five or 14 storeys respectively will be constructed along the railway tracks on the western side of Quartier Heidestrasse by 2023, creating a total of around 104,000 sqm of office space and around 8,500 workspaces.

Under the title ‘B. THE FUTURE – REAL ESTATE INNOVATION’, talks allowed guests to familiarise themselves with various aspects of the future quarter and participate in an exchange of views. Among those attending were representatives of the five architectural offices that created the designs for Quartier Heidestrasse. There was also a discussion focused on mobility, living, connections and culture.

Thomas Bergander, Managing Director of the project development company Quartier Heidestraße GmbH, expressed his satisfaction with the evening: “I am very pleased, not just with the content covered but how the event worked overall. An open exchange with experts and partners is essential for achieving a coexistence of living, working and residential – the new generation Berlin mix. Diverse, inspiring feedback is important in developing a neighbourhood that is worth living in – and one that we believe Quartier Heidestrasse will provide under the motto ’Mix it like Berlin’.”

Quartier Heidestrasse is a vibrant new neighbourhood development with a mix of residential and office buildings, commercial, public streets and squares as well as open green spaces. Cafés, restaurants and local convenience shopping in the centre of the quarter will create a pleasant, trendy atmosphere for living and working. Quartier Heidestrasse will include around 295,000 sqm of commercial and retail space and around 920 apartments – 25 per cent of which will be publicly funded housing in accordance with the Berlin model of cooperative building land development.
